Adopt a Beach

TWI Owen Park

Because every litter bit hurts, especially on our inviting shorelines, TWI initiated a plan to keep Tisbury’s beaches neat and tidy. Our Adopt-a-Beach Program, now in its 7th year, recruits other non-profits to “adopt” a section of a beach to clean on a monthly basis. Each group is given a check-sheet to report the types and volume of litter found, the general condition of the beach, evidence of dogs and abandoned dinghies.

TWI is gratified by the commitment of the community organizations involved – from Girl Scout troups to members of the the Sheriff’s Dept. Outreach Program. This has proved an opportunity for all ages to learn first-hand about what pollutes, both visually and environmentally, and to play a positive role in preserving several of our key resources. Beaches currently getting a helping hand include: Tashmoo Inlet, Owen Little Way, Owen Park, the Lake St. boat ramp area, Hines Point Beach Access, Lagoon Pond Boat Ramp and Eastville Beach.

To enroll your organization in the Adopt-a-Beach program, please contact TWI’s Harriet Barrow at 508-693-4909. Our many thanks to current and future recruits!
