Lake Tashmoo Eelgrass Survey

During summer 2021, the eelgrass in Lake Tashmoo was surveyed by the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries. The long-awaited report has arrived and was discussed at the town's Waterways Committee meeting on May 12, 2022. Mark Rousseau of Mass DMF presented the report.

Since the presence of eelgrass is seen as a signal of the health of the pond, these survey results can inform decisions the town makes to try to protect our eelgrass beds where possible. For example, Mass DMF does not condone anchoring in eelgrass. Last year’s survey did not cover the full pond, as for past DEP assessments. The survey instead looked at specific areas of interest, for example to examine the impact of anchoring in Tashmoo. See the full report on the Town’s website, linked here.
